Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge Railing Upgrade
In 2018, JB James Construction was awarded a major contract to upgrade the older southbound span of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. The project added steel guardrails above the original concrete barrier to improve protection for motorists.

Strengthening a Major Transportation Link
The original southbound span, opened in 1956, had concrete barriers approximately 25 inches high. The guardrail project added approximately 21 inches of steel barrier, bringing the reported total height to 46 inches.
The work was intended to help reduce the risk of taller vehicles, including SUVs and trucks, going over the bridge railing. The overall safety improvements are attributed to the bridge upgrade—not solely to any drilling equipment.
